Presenting ‘August Showers’

Isobel completed this expansive 10 oil painting series over the summer and autumn of 2022 alongside her little dog. Hill’s studio is nestled in the Yorkshire countryside and it is here she gathers much of her inspiration, drawing extensively and using the quietness of her surroundings to balance often heavier and more complex themes

“My new series of works ‘August Showers’ tie together various odd and abstract ends that only recently did I notice intertwine with one another. The collection addresses the strange feeling of dread being guest at even the fondest of moments and the idea of inevitable timeline progressions, marked only by the ever changing seasonal landscapes of where I reside. The pieces are an amalgamation of feelings surrounding worry, tranquility and comfort, recognising that the acknowledgement of seasonal change can be the thing that not only calms and comforts but also fills you with dread. ‘August Showers’ begins to unpack this confusing collision of delight and despair in narrating the journey of an individual as they come to terms with no longer just observing from the window but also now being thrust into the arms of what is depicted before them too”
