“Isobel Hill graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in July 2020. She is the recipient of the Kate Barton Painting Award 2020. Working across a variety of media including painting, drawing, animation, poetry, wearable garments, and sculpture, Hill’s work looks at the mundane nature of the everyday, highlighting passing moments and chance events that often go unnoticed. In particular she is fascinated by the way happenings throughout our lives unknowingly but eventually shape us as individuals. Hill’s work relies on narrative, using her own personal experiences as a means of exploring these themes. Her graduate collection, Farewell Isobel, unpacks the grief she felt after the death of her dog, not only to serve as an antidote but also as a place where others can seek comfort. Hill uses grief as a vehicle for remembering nostalgic and saddened memories that are bound together in time.

The new artist is an online residency and exhibition platform for recent graduate and emerging artists in the UK. The platform was established in August 2020 by alexandra Mackay as a response to the global pandemic and subsequent issues faced by artists, including cuts to funding and lack of opportunity. the new artist seeks to provide a space for visibility and the promotion of artists’ work. the platform offers each artist a unique space, tailored to each of them, to exhibit as part of a curated programme of the best new work being made today. the new artist celebrates artist’s creativity and reflects the diversity of both artists and their work.”
